St. Gertrude’s parish has just finished its first Alpha course with a wonderful turnout of 20 participants. When we initially set out with the idea of running the course, we put a lot of trust in God to bring out the parishioners whom he was calling to participate. Since this was our parish first Alpha course, we decided to invite our parishioners first before opening it to others. We were also prepared not to turn down anyone who wanted to participate. We had a total of 24 participants signed up with a steady 20 every night.

The CCCB issues statements on mental illness and euthanasia / assisted suicide. As stated in both the Open Letter and Message, "Expanding access to euthanasia and assisted suicide for individuals living with a mental illness closes the door to any hope of recovery…undermines the universal and inviolable dignity of human life and harms the building up of society." Referencing our common dependency on each other in varying degress throughout life, the CCCB calls on the federal and provincial/territorial governments to allocate more resources and funding to mental healthcare as well as to palliative care. The CCCB also encourages the faithful "to witness to life, to tend to and accompany the sick, to resist pressure to support or participate in ‘MAiD,’ and to pray that our law makers may see the harm in what they are permitting to take place."

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus’ rising to Heaven calls us to look up, setting our minds on things that are above and finding our strength in him. He reaches into our lives, with all that we carry and the unique challenges we face and walks alongside of us, taking our burdens upon himself. Because of his suffering, death and resurrection we can live with the confidence of knowing that we are never abandoned.
